How your site goes online
What publishing needs, and how to take your site offline.
Until you publish, your site is a private preview that only you can see. Publishing needs:
- a subscription to a plan, and
- your name, title and institution filled in. A photo, biography and publications are suggested but not required.
After you subscribe, nothing is published for you. A banner on your dashboard says the site is not online yet, and the Publish my site button is on the Overview page.
Take your site offline
On the Overview page, choose Take offline whenever you like. Visitors then see a not-found page, and everything you wrote is kept. Publish again to bring it back. If you only want a break, pause your site instead: it stays online with a short note for visitors.
Show or hide a section
Each section's page has a switch, Show … on my site. Hiding a section never deletes what is in it.
If a subscription lapses
Your site stays up unchanged for 7 days while only you see a renewal prompt, then it is suspended with a holding page that names you. Your content is kept. See When your subscription expires.
