EduProfile

Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of EduProfile. By creating an account you agree to them.

Who we are

EduProfile (“we”) lets academic staff build and publish a personal profile website.

Your account

  • You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding agreement.
  • You must give accurate details and keep your sign-in secure, whether you use a password, Google, a passkey or two-factor codes. Tell us at once if you think someone else has used your account.
  • You are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • Each person may hold one profile. Your slug is unique across the whole platform.
  • Once a slug has been used it is never released for someone else, even if the profile is suspended or closed.

Plans, trial and payment

  • There is no free plan. The plans are Starter, Standard and Pro, at the prices shown in our pricing section, in naira, billed yearly or monthly.
  • Every account starts with a 7-day trial from the day it is created. During the trial you can build your site and preview it privately, but you cannot publish it, and only the first 3,000 words of a CV you upload are read. When the 7 days are over, your site is read-only until you subscribe: you can look at it and preview it, but not change it. No payment is required to start.
  • Publishing needs a subscription. Subscribing, switching plans or applying a promo code is done from your Billing page, and removes the trial’s limits. Payments are processed by Paystack.
  • A trial account that has not subscribed 60 days after it was created is deleted automatically and permanently, with everything in it. We email you 7 days and 2 days before that happens, and 2 days before editing stops.
  • Paid subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Cancel before the renewal date to avoid the next charge.
  • Features and templates above your plan are shown as unavailable. You can change plan at any time. Moving to a higher plan on the same billing period takes effect at once, and you pay the difference for the time left in the period. Moving to a lower plan, or between monthly and yearly billing, takes effect when your current paid period ends, and nothing is refunded for the time left.
  • Prices are in naira and are the prices shown when you pay. We may change them; a new price applies from your next renewal, and we will tell you by email before it does.
  • If a renewal payment fails, your subscription enters the 7-day period described below. A payment that is later confirmed brings the subscription back to normal.
  • Promo codes have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, and may be limited by plan, number of uses or time.
  • Refunds are covered in our Refund Policy.

Limits and fair use

  • Each plan has limits shown in the product, such as the number of gallery photos on Starter and a storage allowance for everything you upload (photos, files and blog images). Uploads also have a size limit for each file.
  • If you move to a plan with a smaller allowance while over it, we do not delete anything; you simply cannot upload more until you are under the limit.
  • Reading a CV costs us real processing, so it is limited: during the trial one CV is read, and only its first 3,000 words; on a paid plan the number of CVs that can be read in a year depends on their length.
  • We limit how often some actions can be repeated, such as sign-in attempts, emails and lookups, to protect the service. A limit is never a promise that you may reach it.

If your subscription lapses

  • For 7 days after expiry your profile stays live and unchanged; only you see a renewal prompt.
  • After that your profile is suspended. Visitors see a holding page naming you instead of your content. Your content is kept, and renewing restores the profile as it was.
  • Your own domain and personal subdomain are part of the Pro plan. When your plan no longer includes them, such as when you move to a lower plan or a lapse reaches suspension, they stop working at once, with no extra grace period. While your profile is still published, visitors are sent to its eduprofile.ng address instead. We keep the connection, so upgrading to the Pro plan again brings it back.

Your own domain

  • To connect a domain you must own it or have the owner’s permission, and you are responsible for keeping it registered and for the DNS records it needs.
  • We do not sell or register domains. Where we suggest names or link to a registrar, the registrar sets the price and has the final say on availability.
  • Your domain works through services of other companies, including Cloudflare, so we cannot promise it will always be reachable or that a certificate will be issued quickly. We may remove a domain that is used to break these terms.

Slugs, names and the verified badge

  • You may not choose a slug that impersonates another person or organisation, or that suggests you speak for one. We may change, release or refuse a slug that does, and slugs that are reserved for the service cannot be used.
  • If you believe someone has taken your name or an organisation’s name, tell us at [email protected] and we will look into it.
  • The verified badge means only that the account holder has confirmed they can receive email at the institution address shown. It is not an endorsement, and it is not proof of employment, qualifications or credentials.

Your content

  • You own what you put on your profile.
  • You give us a licence to store, process and display it so that we can run your profile, including showing published content to the public and, for CV uploads, processing it to prepare a draft.
  • You promise you have the right to publish it, including photos, publications, lecture notes and books you list.
  • Anything you publish is public. Search engines and other sites may keep copies, and we cannot recall them after you remove it.
  • A CV upload produces a draft, and extraction can be wrong. Nothing is published until you review and publish it, and you are responsible for what you publish.

Templates and designs

  • The templates, layouts, styles and code that draw your profile belong to us or our licensors. We license them to you only for use on a profile published through EduProfile, for as long as your subscription is active.
  • You may not copy, scrape, save or reproduce a template, including from a private preview, in order to use it somewhere else, or to give or sell it to anyone else. Your own content, such as your text and photos, remains yours, and you can download it from Settings.
  • Sites on the Starter and Standard plans show a small “Built with EduProfile” credit in the footer. You may remove it on the Pro plan, and you must not hide it by other means on a plan that does not include removing it.

Acceptable use

You must not use EduProfile to:

  • impersonate another person or claim an affiliation or credential you do not have;
  • publish unlawful, defamatory, harassing or infringing content;
  • upload malware or attempt to disrupt or gain unauthorised access to the service;
  • send spam, including through blog comments or consultation bookings;
  • scrape the service in bulk or build a competing service from other people’s profiles.

We may remove content or suspend an account that breaks these rules. Where we can, we will tell you why.

Blog comments and bookings

On the Pro plan, the profile owner runs their blog. A commenter’s first comment is held for approval, and later comments from the same email address are published automatically until the owner or an administrator removes them. Owners are responsible for the comments they allow to stay.

Consultation bookings are arrangements between the visitor and the profile owner. We provide the calendar and are not a party to the consultation.

Visitors’ information

When a visitor books a consultation or leaves a comment, you receive their name and email address. You may use that information only to deal with their booking or comment, and you must protect it and follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. You must not add them to a mailing list, sell or share their details, or contact them for anything unrelated without their agreement. If a visitor asks you to delete their details, you must do so.

Reporting content

  • To report content that is unlawful, infringes your rights, or breaks these terms, email [email protected] with the address of the page, what is wrong, and, for a rights claim, who owns the rights and how to reach you.
  • We may remove or hide content while we look into a report, and we may tell the profile owner who reported it where the law or fairness requires.
  • We may close the account of someone who repeatedly infringes other people’s rights.

Availability and changes

We work to keep EduProfile available but do not promise uninterrupted service. We may change or remove features, and will give notice where a change removes something your plan includes.

Ending your account

You can stop using EduProfile at any time by cancelling your subscription and deleting your account in Settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or that puts the service or other people at risk.

Messages from us

We email you the messages the service needs: verification codes, sign-in and security alerts, billing receipts and reminders, booking and comment notices, and changes to these terms. Some of these cannot be switched off. We do not send advertising emails.

Other companies and websites

EduProfile works with other companies, such as Paystack for payments and Google for sign-in, and profiles link to websites we do not run. Their own terms apply to what they provide, and we are not responsible for them or for what they publish.

No warranties

To the extent the law allows, we make no promise that EduProfile will be free of errors, secure against every attack, or suitable for a particular purpose, and we do not promise that the CV reading, the suggestions we make or the statistics we show are complete or correct.

Liability

EduProfile is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for content published by users, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Your responsibility for claims

If a claim is made against us because of content you published or because you broke these terms, you agree to cover our reasonable losses from it, including reasonable legal costs, to the extent the law allows.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

General

  • These terms, with our Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and Refund Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about EduProfile.
  • You may not transfer your account to someone else. We may transfer our rights and duties if EduProfile is taken over or passes to someone else, and will tell you if we do.
  • We are not responsible for a delay or failure caused by something beyond our reasonable control, such as a power or network failure or the failure of a service we depend on.
  • We give notices by email to the address on your account or by a notice in the dashboard. You can reach us at [email protected]. We have no office or postal address, so notices to us should be sent by email.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters to you, we will tell account holders by email before the change takes effect. Continuing to use EduProfile after that means you accept them.
